Our story: milestones from 2014 to today
More than ten years of fintech from Frankfurt — from P2P lending pioneer to digital credit platform. These are the milestones that shaped GIROMATCH.
2014: Founded in Frankfurt
On 27 June 2014, Robin Buschmann, Daniel Conradt and Viktor Kraus founded GIROMATCH GmbH. That same year, the City of Frankfurt granted us our licence to broker loans under Section 34c of the German Trade Regulation Act (GewO). The idea from back then still drives us today: credit should be digital, fair and paperless.
2016: One of Germany’s first fully digital P2P lending marketplaces
In early 2016, giromatch.com went live as one of Germany’s first fully digital P2P lending marketplaces: loan applications ran 100% online, with video identification and zero paperwork — anything but standard in 2016. With our investment product “Deutschlandportfolio”, investors could invest from 200 euros into German consumer loans, algorithmically diversified, with Fidor Bank as the account-holding partner bank. That same year, GIROMATCH won the “Finnovativstes Start-up 2016” award (“most finnovative start-up”) at the FinTech Days in Stuttgart.
2017: The German State of Hesse invested in GIROMATCH
In 2017, Hessen Kapital I GmbH, a public investment company of the German State of Hesse, invested around 500,000 euros in GIROMATCH as part of a funding round of almost one million euros (coverage: Station Frankfurt, June 2017). For a three-year-old fintech, that was a clear signal: the business model works.
2017: Among the first fintech members of the Association of German Banks
In October 2017, the Association of German Banks (Bundesverband deutscher Banken, BdB) admitted eleven fintechs as extraordinary members for the first time — GIROMATCH was one of them. We worked in the newly founded Digital Banking project committee, side by side with the chief digital officers of Germany’s banks (coverage: IT-Finanzmagazin, October 2017).
2018–2020: Filed our own technology for patent
We filed a patent application for our process of automatically generating financing offers (publications between 2018 and 2020). Automation has been at our core from day one — and still is.
